What is Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a Korean martial art based on the understanding of body mechanics and Newtonian physics. Influenced by other martial arts, Taekwondo emphasizes speed, control and agility to subdue a larger or stronger opponent. With an emphasis on kicking techniques rather than grappling or hand techniques, students are able to get a great workout and also learn self-defense.
One of the core principles of Taekwondo is the "relax and strike" application. This principle places attention on maximal power with minimal effort. In other words, between strikes or blocks the practitioner learns to relax the body, maximizing efficiency of performance. This technique is combined with breath control to conserve ones body energy.
Most of our techniques taught at our school advocate the Kukkiwon and World Taekwondo Federation guidelines and rules. Most of the Poomsae techniques are performed at uniformed height during movements, drawing its power mainly from the rotation of the hip.
